Where are the women who look like me?

Let’s talk about race in the Pilates & wellness space

I love Pilates. The way it strengthens without force. How it softens and sculpts. How it connects you back to your breath. But for a long time, I didn’t see many people who looked like me in the rooms I trained in. And I didn’t see many of us on the screens or social feeds either.

The truth is… Wellness and Pilates have been marketed through a very specific lens. When you think of Pilates, you think, light skin, light hair, petite frame, matching sets with matcha drinking lifestyle, and a kind of perfection that quietly whispers to those not like that: this is not for you!

So let’s talk about it. And more importantly, let’s change it!

Why representation matters so much in fitness

When you see someone who looks like you moving in a space that feels powerful, soft, and safe, something shifts.
You feel welcomed. You feel possible. You feel less alone. You feel you can relate.

Representation isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about creating space. It’s about feeling seen, not just in bodies, but in energy, in rhythm, in language, in culture.

The diversity in the Pilates and wellness world is slowly evolving, but there’s still so much more to do. And it’s not just about brands, it’s also about us!
Inviting each other in. Speaking up. Being visible. Building community.

This is an open invitation…

If you’re a woman of colour, and you’ve ever felt:

  • Uncomfortable walking into a studio
  • Underrepresented in workout videos
  • Like fitness wasn’t designed for your body, your culture, your rhythm

I want you to know something:

You belong here. On the mat. In the mirror. In the spotlight. You don’t need to change a thing about who you are to start. You just need to feel safe enough to begin. This is your space too. And it always has been.

To the allies reading this

If you teach, coach, own a studio, or support wellness in any way, your presence matters too. Representation isn’t just about who’s in front of the camera. It’s also about who’s behind it, who’s included, and who’s invited.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Amplify instructors and creators of colour
  • Choose diverse marketing and media intentionally
  • Intentionally invite and make space for ANY and ALL women!

Inclusion is not a trend, it’s a commitment!

What we’re creating at Sol & Flex

As a woman of colour, with a curvy shape, at Sol & Flex my mission is to build a space that is:

  • Diverse
  • Accessible
  • Real
  • And deeply supportive of your energy, culture, and body

I want you to feel like you don’t have to be “fit” to start. You don’t have to be polished to show up. And you don’t have to change yourself to feel like you belong.

My free Sunkissed Summer Sculpt eBook was created to be a welcoming way back into movement, especially for women who’ve felt left out. And my 1:1 and group sessions are always open for you to bring yourself, fully and freely!

Let’s keep the conversation going

This is just the beginning. We move stronger when we move together. And the more we show up, the more we make space for others to feel safe to do the same.

So, if you’re a woman of colour thinking “I want to start but I’m not sure where I belong”… Let this be your sign. You belong here. With us. With me!

Let’s take up space. Let’s move with softness and power. And let’s rewrite the story together.
